Wedding Makeup Trends from Ruby J MUA
Lisa and I love collaborating with other wedding industry creatives, particularly on styled photo shoots. Everyone involved brings their own expertise and their A-game.
We recently worked on a project with Ruby J , a fab makeup artist from Nottingham. It was such a pleasure to work with Ruby as not only was she the ultimate professional (arriving early and one of the last to leave), her makeup looks are exactly what Cicily Bridal is all about – clean lines, effortless cool and understated drama.
We got in touch with Ruby to ask her what makeup trends she is getting excited about in 20/21. In a world where we are having to adapt to new ways of working and communicating Ruby has embraced this by running virtual makeup workshops starting on the 1st May!
“The world may be at a standstill, but this doesn’t mean your mind has to stop running with bridal ideas, especially makeup ones!
Stripped back has always been one of my favourite buzz words in the world of makeup, whether it be in the form of natural complexion, a one product eye look or a barely there, just bitten lip. Previously reserved for editorials or catwalk models, now is the time to embrace these looks for every day, or your wedding day!”

“As well as the stripped back, uber chic minimalist looks I am sure to be creating in the 20/21 season, I am looking forward to delving into metallics with a modern twist. Waving goodbye to the classic gold/brown smoky eye and embracing metallics in the form of gilding. Eyelids and skin adorned with shimmer, a look that can be worn any month of the year.”

“Many of my wonderful brides this year have had to delay their special days. It is a hard decision to make, but rest assured, your wedding day will be perfect, whenever it happens! You may be thinking of ways to make your postponement relevant to the new time of year, switching up your makeup look (ever so slightly) is an easy way of moving into your new season. A switch up of a lip colour or the intensity of a liner can help transition your bridal style smoothly.

“In a bid to get back to doing what I love, I am running virtual makeup workshops so you can look and feel like the best version of you – even in lockdown! The workshops cover different aspects of makeup/ looks and start on 1st May. Just book your ticket, grab your makeup bag and brush along with me for an evening! “
